Currently at the Department for International Economic and Political Studies for IE RAS the Dissertation council Д 002.009.02. is operating, which is approved at the Institute of Economy for the Russian Academy of Sciences (the city of Moscow) by order of the Federal Service for Supervision in the sphere of education and science dated March 01, 2006, № 495-17.

In 2006 г. two defenses of Ph.D. theses were held at the DIEPS IE RAS:
1. Le Nguen Kuok Khang (the citizen of Vietnam, applicant of DIEPI IE RAS) "Foreign Capital in Vietnam’s Economy ". It was upheld on December 22, 2006, the dissertation was prepared at the Centre of Asian studies of DIEPS IE RAS.
2. Burov Ivan Victorovich (the citizen of Russian Federation, postgraduate student of DIEPS IE RAS) "Foreign Investments in Banking Sector of Countries with Transition and Developing Economy ". The defense took place on December 22, 2006. The dissertation was prepared at the Centre for Central and South-East European countries of DIEPS IE RAS.
