
This set of papers presents materials of the conference, held in the IIEPS RAS in 2004, in the city of Moscow and dedicated to system transformations problems in Russia, the CIS and CEE countries and to social price these countries paid for transition to market economy. The leading experts both from Russia and some foreign states took part in the conference work. Analyzing social problems of the transition period the authors reveal common features and peculiarities of social situation, which has emerged in the examined countries, social policy trends, consider population revenues trends, poverty and inequality problems, contemporary tendencies of labor market development, results and perspectives of reforms in the social sphere, especially those of retirement insurance and health care.
