- On September 18, 2007 in the DIEPS RAS conference hall the meeting of the Academic council "International Economic and Political Studies" was held. Dr. (Hist.), Prof. Vyacheslav I. Dashichev made a report on the subject "Russia’s Pathways in the Future".
The report considers a problem of Russia’s future in the context of its past and present-day development, provides analysis of principal subjective and objective reasons and consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union, which by universal recognition entailed a genuine geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.
In view of the author, it’s the creation of convergent social society, embracing the best national and social (including socialist) features of Russia’s (the Soviet Union) past development and those of present-day western social system, that can contribute to surmounting the crisis. Such a scenario would most closely correspond to national interests of the country, to enforcement of its security, social and economic progress.
