2004-25-11: International Research Conference
On November 25-26, 2004 in the building of RAS Presidium, in the Red Hall (Moscow, Leninsky prospect, 32) the Institute for International Economic and Political Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences (IIEPS RAS) held International research conference "System Transformation Models and Social Price of Reforms: the Experience of Russia, CIS and CEE Countries"

New Edition of special collected papers discussed at the conference is prepared.

For creating the society founded on the principles of market economy and democracy CEE and CIS countries pay a high social price. Decrease of living standard and increasing impoverishment, decrease of consumption level, emergence of unemployment, loss of many social guarantees that have emerged as customary for the years of socialist development, make it a crucial problem to solve social protection issues, as well as to search for mechanisms designed for coordinating interests of various social groups and settling of social contradictions.

The processes of economic and social transformation stipulate significant changes in purposes, means and methods for realizing social policy as one of most important directions of state regulation of societal life. Currently, we endure the transition from crisis regulation, i.e. from urgent decision-making designed for removing negative social consequences of carried out reforms, to elaborating new social policy based on new ideology, organizational forms and financial mechanisms.

The leading researchers of social policy problems from both Russia and foreign countries, the representatives of profile authorities, international organizations, foundations and mass media will take part in the conference.
